Its kind of funny the first time they make a real sound as I have actually seen them jump back in surprise at their own sound :) Most of the corvids are pretty docile at the fledge stage until they learn proper avoidance behaviour from their parents. This one might be part of a larger brood that the parents are still monitoring, If he can fly and seems to be finding food, I wouldnt worry about him. You can also call me if you have further questions or concerns ( 893-0253). Helene Helene Van Doninck DVM Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre Truro , Nova Scotia www.cwrc.net -----Original Message----- From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca]On Behalf Of Fritz McEvoy Sent: Sunday, August 05, 2007 9:54 AM To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Subject: [NatureNS] Raven question Hi All, For the last week or so a young Raven has been hanging around our property. It has no fear of humans as I can approach to within three feet. It seems to have no medical problems other than an inability to vocalize. It attempts to call but can only produce low guttural sounds. At first this was interesting but now I wonder if it may be imprinting on humans and whether or not I should discourage its remaining at my house? Does this behavior occur from time to time and will the bird leave on his own volition in time? All the best.
