Index of Subjects PIRG has 3 job openings this summer: 1-web design/promotions coordinator 2-Researcher/writer 3-film maker. Job descriptions are below: Web Design/Promotions Co-ordinator Summary of Position This person will update our website and create a system for posting current events and information. Part of the job will involve training the co-executive directors in how to keep the current events section current. Another aspect of the job will be developing the use of our new logo on both the website and our other publicity materials. Finally, the promotions coordinator will organize past outreach information and strategy material in preparation for the 2001-2 volunteer recruitment and organization at Dalhousie University. Qualifications -demonstrated web page design skills and the ability to teach those skills to others. -demonstrated skills in creating effective publicity material. -demonstrated interest in environmental and social justice issues. -must be self-motivated, have good organizational skills and the ability to work well independently. -good communication and interpersonal skills are imperative. Eligibility Successful applicant must have attended university/college/trade school/final year of highschool full-time during 2000/01 school year and be returning to full-time study in the fall in accordance with Human Resources Development Canada funding requirements. The format will be designed to be useful to the lay public. The work will be published by NSPIRG upon completion of the contract and may act as the basis for a discussion forum in the 2001-2 school year. The two topics are: (1) Oil and Gas research, development and distribution in Nova Scotia (2) The use of Depleted Uranium as a weapon and its effects on soldiers and civilians in affected areas. Qualifications -demonstrated excellent research and writing skills. -knowledge of computer layout and design an asset. -demonstrated interest in environmental and social justice issues. -must be self-motivated, have good organizational skills and the ability to work well independently. -good communication and interpersonal skills are an asset. The film maker will be required to produce a short film from footage (including DVD footage) of a panel discussion held last year on the state of Nova Scotia's forest and from other sources. The film will present an analysis of clearcutting and sustainable harvesting practices in the Nova Scotian context. NSPIRG will screen the film at various events andwill make it available for use by the public. Qualifications -demonstrated excellent film making/editing skills. -demonstrated interest in environmental and social justice issues. -must be self-motivated, have good organizational skills and the ability to work well independently. -good communication and interpersonal skills are an asset. -knowledge of forestry and Nova Scotia is an asset.
