Index of Subjects This evening, sitting by an open window in central Halifax, I heard a Common Nighthawk peenting somewhere over the treetops. This is the first one I have heard here in the city for several years; this used to be a more common sound on hot summer nights. I once suspected that they nested on the flat gravelled roofs of some of the taller apartment and university buildings. I also heard a nighthawk calling before sunset over the Bedford Basin on Wednesday night, when I was visiting my parents' home. Patricia L. Chalmers Halifax
