Eskasoni. Trying to get more details and the picture is fuzzy a This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_01E1_01CDAE3B.05C2AC00 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable HI John & All, Oct 19, 2012 I can not cite the sources but I have seen several times, in = supposedly authorative/academic sources, the spurious assertion that = there are no Eastern Cougars in Atlantic Canada because "the last = Eastern Cougar here was shot in 1948 (?)." The question mark is inserted = because I am not sure of the year. The phrase in quotation marks is, by the nature of knowledge, not = subject to verification and therefore without merit. One the other hand = the statement "There is no record of an Eastern Cougar having been shot = in Atlantic Canada since 1948" is subject to verification. But this latter statement is entirely mute on the question; Are = Eastern Cougars present in Atlantic Canada ?"=20 I hope they will be able to get a sample, an entire sample if = necessary, for determination of DNA. Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville =20 ----- Original Message -----=20 From: John and Nhung=20 To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca=20 Sent: Friday, October 19, 2012 5:58 AM Subject: RE: [NatureNS] Cougar sighting in Eskasoni Interesting! =20 I don't think DNR denies the existence of cougars in N.S. I think = it's more the lack of incontrovertible proof that they keep bringing up. =20 "No proof" or "no evidence" of a phenomenon doesn't mean that the = phenomenon doesn't exist, eh? =20 (I remember an April, 1988 article in the Globe and Mail, when small = inshore fishermen in Newfoundland were assured that there was "no = evidence" that the gathering on draggers on the banks in spawning season = would adversely affect the fishery. Gee, why did those stocks collapse = three or four years later?) =20 From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca = [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Tuma Young Sent: October-18-12 9:24 PM To: NatureNS Subject: [NatureNS] Cougar sighting in Eskasoni =20 =20 Kwe Folks: =20 Just a little note to inform you that a Eastern Cougar has been = sighted and photographed near Eskasoni. Trying to get more details and = the picture is fuzzy as it was taken with a smartphone but DNR has = informed the family that no cougars exist in NS. There is some = indications that they are thinking about hunting it down. This is the = second sighting in two days. I'm trying to find out if the group is = attempting to trap or kill it (the residents are worried for = children/pets). I will try to post the picture on the NS Bird Society = facebook page. =20 Tuma Young =20 =20 =20 =20 =20 Koqwaqja'tekaq'tinej. (Let Us Choose The Correct Behaviour) No virus found in this message.
