Interesting!

I don't think DNR denies the existence of cougars in N.S. I think it's more
the lack of incontrovertible proof that they keep bringing up.

"No proof" or "no evidence" of a phenomenon doesn't mean that the phenomenon
doesn't exist, eh?

(I remember an April, 1988 article in the Globe and Mail, when small inshore
fishermen in Newfoundland were assured that there was "no evidence" that the
gathering on draggers on the banks in spawning season would adversely affect
the fishery. Gee, why did those stocks collapse three or four years later?)

Subject: [NatureNS] Cougar sighting in Eskasoni

Kwe Folks:

Just a little note to inform you that a Eastern Cougar has been sighted and
photographed near Eskasoni. Trying to get more details and the picture is
fuzzy as it was taken with a smartphone but DNR has informed the family that
no cougars exist in NS. There is some indications that they are thinking
about hunting it down. This is the second sighting in two days. I'm trying
to find out if the group is attempting to trap or kill it (the residents are
worried for children/pets). I will try to post the picture on the NS Bird
Society facebook page.
