James and all,

I get Barreds shutting up after hearing the Barred playback as well. My
interpretation of this is that the owl is thinking, "Whoooo the heck is in
my territory...I'll show him!" and he shuts up, and flies in to the site
quietly to check out the very loud interloper. I've noticed that Barreds
fly in late during the survey stop, but sometimes they either (a) don't or
(b) I don't notice them, I don't know which. And of course, sometimes I'd
bet they do come in, but I'm in the truck and off to the next stop.
