Smelt are usually caught before they spawn, when they are on their way up 
the river. The same is true of Kiack, gaspereau and other fish that go up 
the river to spawn.
Later yo may see bouys marking the places there are eel traps where the 
female eels are caught as the leave NS for their trip to the Saragasa sea.
