Index of Subjects I woke up this morning to hear a winter wren singing outside my window. Ah, spring! A trip to Maitland this morning yielded a few interesting birds. A kestrel hovering over a field was my first for the year. At Lawrence House, the body of water beside the parking lot (river? pond?) had about 90 ring-necked ducks, an american bittern, several american wigeon and what I'm pretty sure was a drake eurasian wigeon (distant, though). I also had the best look I've ever had at a muskrat - a very cooperative individual was munching plants on the shoreline. In Shubenacadie, the raptors were out in force - five eagles, a red-tailed hawk and a pair of osprey, all within a few kilometers of each other. Lots of ravens doing paired acrobatics and those neat musical calls, too. And I saw a scaup at Kiwanis Park in Truro yesterday -a greater, I think?
