Oh, dear, this sounds like more effects of global warming. The ticks have had just enough cold that they "think" winter has come and gone, and now they are emerging as though it is early spring. Having one crop of those darn things in a year is quite enough for most of us! Some of our flower species are doing the same thing, but after the cold wind of last night and hard freeze, I don't expect to see too much more activity, if any, among the plants. I spotted 6 or 7 different blooms yesterday on a short walk to the Acadia Student Union building: red clover, white yarrow, common dandelion, fall dandelion, shepherd's purse, possibly a sprig of fleabane in bud, and some common mustard. A week ago tomorrow I also saw on another route to the university in bloom: cheeses, buttercup and white clover. JET
