Index of Subjects Hi All Yesterday evening, BB and I went for a paddle on the Cornwallis River repeating our Sep 12 paddle. The season has made some changes. The river has come up a few cms since then and is at a nice fall level. First we saw a green capsule hanging beneath a bridge. It was guestimated at 300 mm long by 75 mm in diameter. Hanging straight down held to the plank of the bridge by some silk like threads. Top quarter was a darker green than the lower with a row of spots seperating the two. Looked vunerable but nobody had it for breakfast yet. Wood Ducks have returned to the river. Flushed 12 - 15 at close range - singles and doubles. They migrate east from Quebec and then turn and go south when they get here. All females or young from a quick glance. Insects are plentiful along the river. They were down low to get out of the high wind above the grass. Midges, caddis flies, dragon flies and others. Sparrows were busy having a late evening snack as were bats after it got dark. The moths that I saw previously had deteriated to a few and the sulphur colored caddis had disappeared. A beaver slapped its tail right in front of the canoe, spraying us with water. BB was impressed! Mushrats are plentiful also. every few meters or so it seemed. The evening got cool and as I wasn't as warmly dressed as I needed to be, I left the river at 9:30 pm. It was then dark. A very pleasant evening. Enjoy the fall Paul __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
