Hi All
Late yesterday BB and I went to the Cornwallis for a
late evening - early night paddle. There was a great
collection of moths on the river. One group - medium
sized brown fellows flew around in great numbers while
the sun was on the water. all less than 1 meter above
the water - soon as the sun disappeared - they did
too.
Then the caddis flies the regular brown ones along
with the yellow ones were out in abundance. A lot of
smaller flies also with dragonflies cruising and
spiders with their stalls out looking for customers. A
very lively insect river.
The bats can out at dusk - lots of them right in our
faces. Seemed they were in groups - prehaps they nest
nearby but I didn't see any NSLC stores along the
river.
A lot of sparrows also - no doubt attracted to the
river by the insects. They were feeding on the grass.
The river is at a nice level for paddling - the water
is very clear and there are some deep pools in the
section where I was. The deep water makes paddling
easy when the only light is the light of the stars.
Just before I got back - I flushed a beaver ahead of
me. Every couple of minutes it slapped the water with
its tail. makes it very nature like.
Have a nice summer
Paul
