International Walk to School Day: October 8, 2003

Don't forget to walk your children to school on International Walk to School
Day on October 8! It's just around the corner and 79 Nova Scotian schools
have already signed up.

On this day, millions of parents, children, school teachers and community
leaders around the world will walk to school together to promote physical
activity, health, safety and a clean environment. Over 1,420 schools across
Canada participated in the 2002 event along with 28 countries around the
world.

If you have a child in your life, get his/her school to register today by
visiting www.goforgreen.ca/asrts/eform_e.aro. It's not too late to promote
walking, biking or other non-motorized forms of travel to school on October
8. For more information, contact your Nova Scotia Active & Safe Routes to
School Coordinator, based out of the Ecology Action Centre, at (902)
442-5055 or asrts@ecologyaction.ca.

International Walk to School Day is a component of Active & Safe Routes to
School, a national Go for Green program with partners in every province and
territory. In Nova Scotia, the program is coordinated by the Ecology Action
Centre in partnership with the Nova Scotia Office of Health Promotion.
