====================================

O Beautiful Gaia is a choir and recording project with special
character. Three groups will work in connection with one another, yet each
will form, formulate, and record in their place. Each will, within their
own reality, bring forth vision and process. Each will record half a CD of
music. This is a project of knowing our earth and rooting with our
particular land it is study, music, ritual, reflection, silence. Some
among us may also give expression in other creative forms ~ poetry,
writing, visual arts. Atlantic Canada will be one of the three groups
recording for this project. It includes a group from Nova Scotia and a
group from PEI.
Gradually the idea is taking form that Earth is common ground and that land
must be held in safekeeping for the generations to come. As an integral
part of this project we will intentionally join with conservancy groups to
preserve and protect our common heritage.
One of the pieces that we perform is The Longing Series; written by Carolyn
McDade in three parts. The first, I Sing the Longing, is the singing of
love of land, love of place, love of this life, where we put our feet down
every day, the earth beneath our feet. The second part is the chanting of
some of the endangered species of this and other regions. The third part is
a prayer, a wish..for these endangerd, those we are losing, for them to
continue on... We hope to have some slides which will play as we sing the
endangered so all can see who they are.

Modicum consists of Nick Gauthier on vocals/guitar, Rodney Perry on
vocals/bass, Jeremy Gallant on drums/keys and Matt Campbell on vocals and
guitar. Over the last six months the band has built a large repertoire of
covers and their own originals.

On Wednesday, March 12th, Modicum headed to a recording studio in Slemon
Park with producer David Rashed, formerly of Haywire. They re-recorded the
famous tune, "War, What is it Good for?" made popular by soul artist, Edwin
Starr during the Vietnam war. Saturday March 15th saw the live premier of
the song at the Peace Rally in Charlottetown.

The new Rock n' Roll version of the song was recorded in both French and
English and was distributed across the world. German and Italian versions
of the song are currently in the works. MP3s can also be purchased online
at their website www.modicum.ca. All proceeds are being donated to the
noteworthy organization WarChild, helping children affected by wars
everywhere. The band will be playing the WarChild fundraiser at Bluefield
High School April 17th.

Modicum has been featured in The Guardian, CBC Radio, Compass, and Live at
Five; and the 'song' is in current rotation on Magic 93, and many other
radio stations.

If you would like to book or contact the band, call Jeremy Gallant at 368-2755.
Check out Modicum at local venues and bars all across PEI.
