Letter of Support from Gordon Dalzell /Saint John, Citizens Coalition For Clean Air

To all NBEN Member Groups,
I fully support Marylin Powell's concern re this planned controlled burn set for
July 29 to Aug 23 this year. The air advisories for smog and ozone have already begun.
This practice cannot be tolerated - from an air quality perspective. Considering
the already loaded air shed of pollution, alot of which is long-ranged transported.
Last year much of the proposed burn had to be cancelled due to poor conditions to
complete this burn. I encourage member groups to contact Minister and Federal
MP Hon John Herron and Hon Andy Scott to register objections.
This practice is too risky from an air pollution perspective.
Unfortunately the Base has not come up with alternatives even though the committee
offered many to control the vegetation build up. One of the challenges is to
prevent an uncontrolled burn like there was in 1978.
I encourage folks to register their concern with Base Gagetown, and to
also contact Dept of Environment to ask for copy of plans to do this burn under CEAA.
The Base has to register their plan with Prov. Dept. as well as Federal agency.
We need to support Marilyn Powell on this!
