Wilderness Committee of the Ecology Action Centre seeks Sustainable Forestry Coordinator Duties: To coordinate the “Standing Tall” Campaign of the Ecology Action Centre. The campaign is aimed at promoting sustainable forestry in Nova Scotia and reducing clearcutting. The Coordinator will be involved in education, media work, the dissemination of promotional material, and fundraising. In addition, work on promoting certification in the Maritimes and educating the public about this issue may be undertaken. Qualifications: · Knowledge of forest ecology and forest harvesting practices in the Maritimes · Passion for improving forestry practices · Confidence and experience working with the media · Fundraising experience · Strong writing and presentation skills · Experience coordinating a public education campaign. · Ability to work effectively with community and industry groups · Ability to coordinate a working group (currently composed of the Nova Scotia Environment Network, the Eastern Shore Forest Watch Association and the Nova Scotia Woodlot Owners and Operators Association and others) · Project management experience · Competence in Microsoft Word, internet and e-mail · Ability to track expenses according to a budget and to review monthly accounts · Preference will be given to candidates with an undergraduate degree in environmental sciences, forestry or other similar field, or relevant experience in the field of sustainable forestry. · Experience working or volunteering for non-profit groups an asset This position is available either part-time for 17 weeks (at 20 hours a week) or full time for 10 weeks (35 hour week), depending on the preference of the individual we hire. There is a possibility that the position would be extended, but this will depend on the success of fundraising efforts.
