Hi All In an effort to advance both federal and Nova Scotian Endangered Species legislation, we have David Suzuki coming to Halifax for Friday, Novemebr 27, 1998. We, in this case, is CPAWS (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society). The Sierra Club is also involved (moreso in other venues), so here Davod will be introduced by Elizabeth May. As luck would have it, our only available date was also choosen by the Nova Scotia Nature Trust for their First Annual Silent Auction and Dinner (a major fundraiser). Rather than harming each other's efforts we've combined the events. This means that David will be speaking at a $45 a plate dinner. We have kept the cost as low as reasonable. We regret that not everyone who would like to hear him will be able to attend. On the other hand, the slightly more upscale audience might carry more weight in convincing the federal government to proceed. We have also put pressure on the province to have our bill well underway by this date. This notice is so that those who are able to come, know to do so before all the tickets are sold. (About half sold in the first two weeks!) There is one last angle: The program will list all groups which purchase a whole table. We hope to use this as leverage with the feds. One way ngo's can work this is to find 5 couples, 10 individuals, or a combination thereof, and book as the group. (Halifax Field Naturalists have already done this). If you've only got 7 or 8 you could post to this group to see if anone without a group wants to join yours. The Nova Scotia Nature Trust will also try to help fill partial tables. Details When: Friday, November 27, 1998; 6pm Where: Commonwealth Ballroom, Halifax Westin (the old Nova Scotian, by the train station) Costs: $45 per plate / $450 per table (cash bar) Program: 6pm silent auction and reception; Suzuki books on sale; 7pm - dinner, followed by presentation by David Suzuki on Canada's Endangered Species with Action suggestion from Elizabeth May. The province may be given a chance to speak on it's species efforts. 9pm (estimate) further suzuki book sales; claim (and pay for) auction items. Note the silent auction has a outdoor/wilderness focus.
