Connoire Bay to Culotte Cove;
Where something goes thump in the night.

Sunday the 6th was celebrated with a breakfast of exceptional pancakes and cantaloupe in sunny, calm conditions on deck. A very enjoyable sailing day for making the short passage westward from Connoire Bay to Cinc Cerf Bay with clear weather, well-suited to easy ledge spotting along the way. The wind grew fresh and the sea choppy as we tacked between Smoky Island and Captain’s Island.
The Culotte anchorage
on the beach

We anchored in Culotte Cove, a favorite from past cruises, and directly went ashore to enjoy the white sand beach. A second cooking fire was built after a serious misjudgment about the eventual height of the tide. This made for a late but delicious shore dinner.

Back on the vessel after cleaning up and preparing for serious evening business at the cabin table, we were startled by such a thump and clatter that we rose to see what was the matter (expletives deleted). When Ed threw the hatch open to investigate, a Great Blue Heron that had landed on top of the foremast plucked another note on the triatic stay as it departed in a flap.
