The originator of Clan Melville called his manor "Mala Ville"
-- hence, the name `Melville'
The Melvilles are a Lothian family, who were found in Angus
in the 12th Century. After the family died out, the Barony of
Melville passed into the family of Clan Ross of Halkhead
Clan Melville was closely associated with Clan Oliphant. One
tartan is known under the trademark of "Oliphant and Melville."
