That sounds about right to me Andrew.

I see Halifax is now saying more than 80 cms in the last 3 days so that is
getting close to triple our monthly average of 31 cms for all of March.
Halifax has banned all parking on city streets even at meters.

Hi Keith

I ran into a similar problem when trying to get some snowfall data for the
province. Mean data seemed to be available, but getting synoptic data even
for the last several months for a couple of places was a challenge.. To
boot, a number of "un-official" sources provided contradictory information.

Did manage to extract that, with the exception of the South of the province,
we seem to have about 30-40% more snow than "average" this year, even with
Oct, Nov and Dec being warm

Andrew

For NS it probably wouldn't be the worst winter by any statistical criterial
because November and December were mild without any snow. I wish there was a
more comprehensive site for weather statistics but as far as I'm aware of
there is not a great source of information anywhere. The Weather Network has
some stats for each community--click Forecasts & Reports/Long
Term/Statistics.

The last I heard Boston and Saint John are the only places in the NE to
break their all-time snow records so far this winter but Charlottetown was
getting close too.

But I don't remember a January - March stretch this bad in Halifax before.
Almost every day has been below normal, we're not getting any thawing
cycles, and we're having an unusually high number of severe wind chill days
and I don't even want to mention the word snow (though I will say that
Halifax has more than doubled its March average in the last 3 days).

Also it is not quite NS wide, as often the case the SW tip of NS is getting
off quite easy compared to the rest of the province. I was looking at the
NovaScotiaWebCam for Cape Forchu yesterday and it was showing mostly bare
ground. They got some today but far less than us.

It's an intriguing question isn't it? When was the worst winter ever in NS?
Total precipitation, days of snow, temperatures below zero C?

We all have our ideas of what a bad winter is. Does anyone know how to find
out "statistically" if this is a bad winter? (in comparison to others on
record)
