This thread made me curious because in my mind it is not all uncommon to =
have intermittent bare ground in January in NS due to our freezing and =
thawing cycles. So I checked the historical weather stats on Environment =
Canada for several places and it is not unusual for the mainland. On =
January 24th the average amount of snow depth in 0 cm at the Halifax =
Airport, 2 cm at Shearwater, trace amount in Kentville, 1 cm in Amherst, =
0 cm in Yarmouth. Cape Breton bucks this trend with significant average =
snow depth around this time. Though the average depth is greater around =
the middle of January.

Since Kentivlle was mentioned first, here is the stats page for there:

After tomorrow our average depth for the end of January will surely rise =
some.

Regarding snow depth, out of curiosity, this morning I checked quite a =
number of locations on the Nova Scotia webcams site and there appears to =
be precious little snow in most areas. I suppose that may change with =
the predicted storm, but it seemed a little odd to see bare ground in so =
many places as of this morning.
