The Herald article mentions that the incident took place "a kilometre =
from shore, in water two metres deep." So the beaver (?) would not have =
been cornered in any way, unlike the agressive beaver in Belarus. Also, =
in the article the victim is quoted as initially thinking that he was =
being attacked by a "sea otter." Sure, here, on the Right Coast?=20

Re. beaver aggression, there was a story some time back about someone in =
Belarus who was killed by a beaver whose bite reputedly severed his =
femoral artery. Not sure how credible it was but it seemed so. Also, =
have a cousin in Nackawik who used to worry about her dog swimming in =
beaver-infested water.

Paul,

yes, the great outdoors is not what it used to be. Now we have to =
worry not only about ticks, but also about great white sharks and now =
belligerent beavers.... The only safe place may be at home, in front of =
the TV or the computer..

This is a very, very odd story, on the Herald's front page yesterday. A =
beaver attacking and biting a snorkeller, in saltwater, and a =
considerable distance from the shore? Was the culprit really a beaver? =
Any thoughts?=20
