Here is a brief trip report for the Fred Dobson walk.
=20
The weather was delightful for the Fred Dobson walk so the few people tha=
t turned out had a wonderful time. We saw a total of 23 species which surpr=
isingly only included 4 warbler species - Yellow-Rumped=2C Black-Throated G=
reen=2C Northern Parula and Magnolia warblers. Some highlights of the day w=
ere a nice close-up of a female Black-Backed Woodpecker=2C a pair of Turkey=
Vultures in the distance over the lake and the beautiful=2C complex song o=
f two (or more) Winter Wrens. Also heard was the sound of a Ruffed Grouse "=
starting up the generator" as described by one of the trip participants. Th=
e resident of the first house at the head of Big Indian Road came out to me=
et us and commented on the lack of Tree Swallows for which he has provided =
a number of nest boxes which were=2C unfortunately=2C all vacant. No swallo=
ws of any species were seen on the trip.
=20
If you want to submit it for the magazine=2C please feel free.

Now that spring is finally here=2C it's an excellent time to get out bird w=

listed on the website: nsbirdsociety.ca

This =0A=
trip is affectionately called "The Fred Dobson Warbler Walk" which is =0A=
being offered at a slightly later time in the year and a more sociable =0A=
time. It is named in honour of Fred Dobson=2C an active member of the NSBS=
=0A=
who now lives on the west coast. Fred led this walk for many years =0A=
after taking it over from his mother Dr. Phyllis Dobson=2C after she moved=
=0A=
to Yarmouth County. Phyllis was also a very active and much loved =0A=
member of the NSBS as well as being editor of our magazine for many =0A=
years.

We will meet at 7:00am in the parking lot of St. James =0A=
United Church located 5 Km along Hwy 333 on the left=2C once you leave the=
=0A=
St. Margaret's Bay Road. The walk follows Big Indian Road which turns =0A=
into a woodland trail a couple of hundred meters long. Good waterproof =0A=
footwear is recommended. The total walking distance is only two or three=0A=
kilometers and the pace will be easy. We will be looking for some of =0A=
the early woodland warblers as well and anything that shows itself on =0A=
Big Indian Lake or Drysdale's Bog. No storm date for this trip.

some. We'll eat lunch there. Meet at the wharf parking lot off the east=0A=
end of Front Street in Wolfville at 9:00am. Dress warmly=2C wear waterproo=
