The Nova Scotia Bird Society has several great field trips in the coming weeks (May trips listed below). All of our upcoming field trips are listed on the website: nsbirdsociety.ca *Saturday, May 17, 2014 - Fred Dobson Warbler Walk - Halifax * Leader: Terry Boswell Email: ta_boz@hotmail.com This trip is affectionately called "The Fred Dobson Warbler Walk" which is being offered at a slightly later time in the year and a more sociable time. It is named in honour of Fred Dobson, an active member of the NSBS who now lives on the west coast. Fred led this walk for many years after taking it over from his mother Dr. Phyllis Dobson, after she moved to Yarmouth County. Phyllis was also a very active and much loved member of the NSBS as well as being editor of our magazine for many years. We will meet at 7:00am in the parking lot of St. James United Church located 5 Km along Hwy 333 on the left, once you leave the St. Margaret's Bay Road. The walk follows Big Indian Road which turns into a woodland trail a couple of hundred meters long. Good waterproof footwear is recommended. The total walking distance is only two or three kilometers and the pace will be easy. We will be looking for some of the early woodland warblers as well and anything that shows itself on Big Indian Lake or Drysdale's Bog. No storm date for this trip. *Saturday, May 17, 2014 - Bird Walk, Middle Musquodoboit - Halifax/Colchester Counties * Leader: Verna Higgins - 384-2286 email: vjhiggins@xplornet.com Meet at 8:00am at the Natural Resources Education Centre parking lot (off Hwy 224 near Middle Musquodoboit) for a morning walk in the Centre's woodlot to see and hear migrant and resident songbirds. The Greenfield location is a wonderful, mature coniferous forest. The Peck Meadow location is also attractive with more hardwoods. There are uncommon species at both locations, which may or may not be seen. We'll take our time and make a day of it but the Greenfield section may be adequate for some. We'll eat lunch there. Meet at the wharf parking lot off the east end of Front Street in Wolfville at 9:00am. Dress warmly, *wear waterproof boots* and bring a lunch. No rain date. Drizzle and/or light showers will be tolerated. * Monday, May 19, 2014 =E2=80=93 Historic Hants County * Leader: Suzanne Borkowski 488-0345 email: suzanneborkowski@yahoo.ca Meet at 8:00am in the parking lot of Mount Uniacke House. Uniacke House then continue along back-country roads through Hants County. Bring a lunch to be enjoyed at Smiley's Provincial Park. Trip may last until 4:00pm, (option to leave early). No storm date for this trip. * Saturday, May 24, 2014 - Return to McNab's Island, HRM * Leader: Cheryl Davis.
