The intensity of nocturnal migration over Antigonish County continued to
increase this week. A total of 1,079 night flight calls was recorded. The
percentage of warblers was down from 93% to 80% due to the increase in
thrush passage. The most common identifiable species this week was
Swainson's Thrush with 117 night flight calls. The Ovenbird tied the
American Redstart as the most common warbler with 95 night flight calls each
while the Common Yellowthroat was close behind with 86. Rare or less common
birds this week included Wood Thrush, Scarlet Tanager, Indigo Bunting, and
Vesper Sparrow. The summary of night flight calls for the week beginning the
evening of August 17 and ending the morning of August 24 is as follows:
