Rick and all,

In my experience, Saw-whets only tend feeders when rodents are scarce. This
year, I've been seeing a fair number of mouse tracks in the snow, but not
many tunnels...I don't know enough about our small mammals to make anything
but a suspicion here...lack of tunnelling = lack of voles? There are more
weasel tracks than most years, I find.

So the upshot is that this does not appear to be a year when owls need to
forage near feeders.
