It's a minke whale...and the argument is between the province and the =
municipality over who is responsible to remove it. In the past, =
municipalities have had to deal with the clean up...not cheap in some =
cases. This time the municipality of Digby says they have no =
jurisdiction over whales....when their in the ocean, it's DFO, and the =
beach is provincial jurisdiction...in fact, they would have to get =
permission from the province to even go on the beach to clean up the =
remains...
Will be interesting to see how this gets resolved...maybe a big storm =
will come along and the whale will be washed back out into the =
Bay...saving face for everyone.
I wonder if anyone knows why the municipalities have been stuck with the =
clean up in the past. =20

A friend of mine took pics of a whale carcass in Sandy Cove, Digby =
today.

The locals told him it has been there for 2 weeks and DNR and DFO are =
arguing over who needs to remove it.=20

Had anyone heard what kind if whale it was?

I could send pics if requested.

  Thanks

  Angela in Windsor
