--Apple-Mail-8--793562106 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed FEB. 19, 2012 - Yesterday afternoon and again this afternoon, I checked the Port Williams sewage ponds three different times (the tide was low on each of these), and zero to very few ducks were seen. Today's check in late afternoon was the most productive: 24 mallards and 9 common goldeneyes -- no scaups and no male redhead. Most of the goldeneyes were females, and one of those had an orangey- yellow bill; my Nat. Geogr. field guide says occasional female common goldeneyes have all-yellow bills; and this female did not have a high forehead nor a large head like a Barrow's at all. At our feeders at home today, as usual there were 3 cardinals (1m, 2f), a male flicker (feeding on peanuts today), 9 mourning doves, 7 blue jays, 4 black-capped chickadees, 4 goldfinches, 4 starlings, a song sparrow, 5 juncos, 2 white-throated sparrows, 1 red squirrel.
