Index of Subjects --Boundary_(ID_1qNoUyjrGxUeojvM/tUFiA) Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Randy, concerning the ground-nesting birds and hay harvesting: I am copying to Glen Parsons of NSDNR in Kentville Wildlife Division office. He has been involved since the early work by Joe Nocera at Belleisle near Annapolis, on the co-existence of agricultural pursuits with grassland and marsh/river wildlife. For the Antigonish area, you are probably right about mid July for getting the ground- nesting birds like bobolinks and sparrows fledged. In Belleisle is was early July, I think, and the farmers there were consulted and advised about when harvesting would be OK and what varieties of grasses were best to plant when considering speed of growth and setting seed but also nutrition of the grains. Glen can provide a lot more info' on this. Everyone else should know that various grassland birds and other wildlife? need human help because of earlier and earlier harvesting of hay plus conversion of grasslands to cultivation etc. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville P.S. THANKS FOR SHARING THOSE IMAGES OF YOUR BEARS AT YOUR FEEDERS!
