Bernard. You should call Hope at hope for wildlife. Try to capture the bird and volunteers will come by to pick it to take to hope for wildlife. Nick and I are volunteers.

Hi Bernard,

I know that folks from Hope Swinamer's, 'Hope For Wildlife' animal refuge (close to HRM) will come & try to capture injured & distressed animals & take them to the wildlife refuge. Hope is the office manager at Dartmouth Veterinary hospital on Tacoma Drive. Their phone # is 434-0700 and Hope's emergency phone # is 452-3339.
Don't know if this is helpful for you. Certainly looks like a very unusual malady. If, though, this unfortunate bird cannot be captured, I hope it is able to right itself, on its own, anyway.

All
I just had a Blue Jay around my deck which appears to be unable to close its beak, like its jaw is locked open. Initially I thought it was just trying to cool off, but it clearly makes an attempt at peanuts and such but cannot pick them up, or at least hold onto them. I did observe it trying to drink from my small deck pond. I was wondering if anyone is aware of such an ailment. It was hanging around very close to me as if it was desperate for assistance.
