Awesome picture...you are correct it is the Golden-fronted Woodpecker. My family and I were birding in McAllen a month ago and were happy to see many of them there. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pics with us,

  Hi Everyone:

When ever Cathy Murrant would take Nick and I birding, I would sometimes tease her by saying "OMG-I've spotted a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker" and Cathy would freak out a bit. After which I would say "April Fool".

However, I thought for sure I have spotted the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and took a picture. I sent this to Cathy (with a bit of gloat on my part) but to her credit she has told me that I have mistaken the identification and that it is really a Golden-fronted Woodpecker. I told her that it has a yellow-belly and that it is a woodpecker thus it is a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker for my list. Cathy told me that I cannot change the names of the birds-they are what they are.

I will confirm this with David Curry.

Nick and I are in McAllen, Texas where we took the picture and are enjoying the birding.
