Yesterday around 10am I checked out the feeders at Bonnie and David Carmichael's on St. Margaret's Bay Road near the Rotary, and was pleased to see the female Baltimore Oriole looking very bright and spry. She flew to a branch while I refreshed the oranges, grapes and jelly. Bonnie uses an old cookie tin to put them in, and places it on a large dirt filled wooden planter. The Oriole sits on the edge to peck at the fruit. I hadn't seen "Babe" since the storm last Wednesday, so had been worried. Since my Babe died in early February, I take "Babey sitting" very seriously. For a bonus, the male Cardinal at the back of the yard was singing its full song, and across the yard was a Song Sparrow declaring a good day. Last Tuesday I was surprised to have a single Junco under my feeders, as I had not had any this year here at Balcome Drive, but I have not seen it since.
