Hi All, Dad and I were pleased to find the Black-throated Gray Warbler today. It was basically in the same area but about a 30-second flight/5 minute or less walk away. We found it at 12:00 noon feeding in the front yard of #1230 Webster Terrace. During the lunch hour it slowly worked its way into the backyard and then continued into the backyard of the homes on Cromwell which runs directly behind the Webster Terrace homes. Due to its habits it was an easy bird to track and follow. I offer the following observations in hopes that they will be of use to others who go looking for the warbler.

Observation # 1 - This individual like the November 84 Black-throated Gray in Halifax and the one seen a few years later in Bedford is fairly vocal. Today every time it moved from one spot to another it would utter a soft “pit” note. Even while it was feeding it produced this note or a very soft chatter almost like it was carrying on a quiet conversation. In fact when we first encountered the bird it was buried deep in a tall weeping juniper at #1230 but we could hear it in there, softly talking to itself. We pished and it popped out immediately.

Observation # 2 - In flight it was very easy to follow and to pick out from the chickadees and the other birds present by the huge amount of white it showed in its tail.

Observation # 3 - We encountered 6 distinct flocks of chickadees in the vicinity. One flock had an Orange-crowned Warbler and a Nashville Warbler traveling with them. We saw no sign of the Black-and-white Warbler and the Black-throated Gray Warbler was trailing a small flock of 6 Black-capped Chickadees.

I hope someone finds this useful in their quest. - All the best in birding, Clarence
