BioBlitz comes to Blue Mountain =96 Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area on June=

Learn more about one of Nova Scotia=92s newest=20
wilderness areas by attending BioBlitz 2009=20
events on June 5 and 6.  Sponsored by Saint=20
Mary=92s University and its community partners,=20
BioBlitz is designed to increase awareness of=20
biodiversity and the valuable service that animal=20
and plant species provide to improve the quality of our lives.

BioBlitz will provide a biodiversity snapshot of=20
Blue Mountain-Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area as=20
more than 80 scientists converge on this unique=20
protected area to survey the plant and animal=20
species. The public is invited to take part in several BioBlitz activities.

On Friday June 5 at 7 p.m. learn more about=20
BioBlitz at a presentation at the Cornerstone=20
Wesleyan Church located at 1215 Hammonds Plains=20
Road.  Dr. Hugh Broders, a biology professor at=20
Saint Mary=92s will reveal the secrets of Nova=20
Scotian bats, and Oliver Maass of the Nova Scotia=20
Department of Environment and Chris Miller of the=20
Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society will=20
provide insight into the ecological riches of the=20
Blue Mountain =96 Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area.

On Saturday June 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the=20
public is invited to participate in activities=20
sponsored by local community groups, talk to=20
scientists about their discoveries, and take part=20
in guided hikes and geocaching hunts in the wilderness area.

All activities will be centered at the Lebanese=20
Cultural Centre and Maskwa Aquatic Club, located=20
off Kearney Lake Road, 10 km from downtown Halifax.
