Hi all
On Monday, I noted 2 Chimney Swifts flying over the Brennan house in Elgin around noon.
.
A pair of Merlins have set up a territory in the parking lot behind the Stellarton town hall. There are 2 crows nests that appear to be now vacant and there may be a possibility the merlins may use one of these nests. The nests are close together, one in a conifer and one ina large hardwood behind the Royal Bank and next to the Rink.

Rick Ferguson and I checked the Temperance St. school last night ( May 19). When we arrived just before 20:30 we noted a few swits were flying around the chimney , a dozen and we were quite surprised when 3 when shortly after at 20:32. The sky was clear, calm winds and 11C and there was still quite a bit of light in the sky. However, the early entry did not continue and swifts gathered over the next 20 min. coming and going from the chimney and at 20:49 a Merlin appeared and flew low over the slopes of the chimney, dispersing the Swifts and causing the swifts to escort the Merlin out of the area. Most swifts entered the chimney in one large group about 21:02. The tally was quite difficult to count, but the number I came up with was 424- another nice total!.
cheers
ken
