I have no direct experience with black-legged or deer ticks, but as I
understand it, the adults are perhaps half to a third of the size of
a dog tick or wood tick. Lyme disease has been on Maritime Noon a
couple of times recently, and exactly how many people in Nova Scotia
have it is controversial and not very easy to find out (plus how many
were actually infected in N.S. as opposed to somewhere else like New
England or further south. Apparently there are a few to several
tests for the disease, and both false positives and false negatives
are quite possible, so repeat testing is needed. And education of
our province's doctors is an ongoing issue, too. Maybe Jeff or
Andrew can add to this. Also the "tick season" for the black-legged
or Lyme tick is basically all summer and can extend into the colder
months, too?

Cheers? from Jim in Wolfville
