While I understand that it is not spread by dog ticks, the disease is not at all uncommon in dogs. A couple of years ago when we arrived back from Florida we found a couple of ticks on our dog which we believe she picked up while we were travelling through the New England. We had tests done and she was positive for Lyme disease. Because it was found early,a course of antibiotics cleared it up quickly.
