Hi Pat

Your mystry Sparrow is a Chipping Sparrow. This bird is in 1st winter =
Plumage and is the one often mistaken for Clay-coloured Sparrow. I find =
the quickest way to tell the difference (between chipping & clay-colour) =
if the lores are dark then it'f a chippy, if they're clear giving an =
open face then it's a clay.

The recent snow has brought a Clay-coloured Sparrow to my feeders.

  Hello everyone:

This is the second time in the last few days there has been a female =
cardinal at my feeder. The first time was at dawn while getting ready =
for the Wolfville count. In the poor light before sunrise and having =
never seen female cardinal I spent a lot of time trying to figure out =
what kind of waxwing had so little markings and was darker on the top of =
the tail.

  http://myweb.dal.ca/pmkelly/FemaleCardinal.jpg

There has been an unusual sparrow hanging around most of today as =
well. I had three American tree sparrows first thing in the morning, =
which is why this one has me so puzzled. It is brown with streaks and =
the streaking continues on the head as well. it is clear breasted, and =
has a dark line through the eye. The tail is notched. The lower bill did =
seem to be a different colour that the upper part. It is smaller than a =
white-throated sparrow (see pictures) and was chased off once by a junco =
that looked a tiny bit bigger.

The pictures are not the best as it was getting a bit darker.

I would be curious to know what this might be.
