Hi all
On Sunday (Dec. 7) morning , realizing that the projected storm was not to be, Charle Kendell and I had a nice hike on the Middle R. (Pictou) dyke. The air was still and the water calm although ice was starting to form on the inner lake. Here are some hightlights
Bald Eagle-8
Kingfisher-2
A. Wigeon-1
Com. Merganser-250+
Common Goldeneye-200
COMMON REDPOLL-100+
Bonaparte's Gull- 100+

At the Pictou Causeway we had another Kingfisher, 1 Pintail (m), and a large group of Black Ducks
In the distance toward Pictou Landing there was a flock of 700+ Scaup to far to get a good count or to see what might be with them. It will take some ice to form to see what this years count will be.

We saw addition Kingfishers at Haliburton Gut and at Weirs Gut, one at each location. A handful Of Iceland Gulls of varying plumage were on Pier C in Pictou.

There was a very large flock of hundreds of Bonaparte's Gulls seen from the Pictou Causeway looking toward Sylvester. Another flock of about 100 at Weirs Gut moved when we arrived as an Eagle forced them out of the area.

We saw only 4 Double-crested Cormorants in the Pictou Harbour which seems a little low, but sometimes the Eagles push them elsewhere.
cheers
Ken
PS I had a couple of phone calls today, Dec. 8, from people with Redpolls at feeders.
