On Saturday afternoon (Nov. 15) I saw what I thought was a Sharp-shinned
Hawk plucking a Rock Pigeon on our back lawn. I grabbed the camera and
tried for a few shots from the deck, then tried to sneak up closer for
some better shots. That didn't work - the hawk flew off into the woods
with the plucked bird in it's claws. But the other pictures turned out
reasonably well, and today we showed them to Fulton Lavender, who IDed
the hawk as a Cooper's! Fulton thought it was a second year bird. It
may be still in the area if anyone wants to look for it.
