Actually there is an alternative to heating oil. We replaced our =20
oil-fired forced air system with an electric thermal storage furnace. =20=

Several benefits:

a) no annual burner tune up.
b) no oil tank to replace.
c) house insurance went down by $20 per month due to all electric heat

Our electric bill for the 12 month period from Aug 2007 to July 2008 =20
was $1609 including hot water.

We also spent $7100 on insulation after having an energy audit done, =20
and got $1500 back from the province and $2400 from the federal =20
government. (you won't get the federal one any more as the =20
conservatives canned the program.)

stability. Gas hydrates only form under a certain combination of
temperature and pressure in the ocean. If the ocean warms too much
(presumably because of increased atmospheric greenhouse gas
concentrations), some theorize that the gas hydrates could become
unstable and release their methane to the atmosphere, further
compounding the atmospheric warming that caused the instability in the
first place. There are many such positive feedbacks known in climate
systems.
