I can't seem to access my gmail from home, so I subscribed to NatureNS (temporarily, I hope) from my work account. As such, I don't know if Ken posted this info or not. Yesterday, Ken McKenna and I went Atlassing in a few Antigonish County squares. Largely speaking, the weather was grey. We did some point counts early in the morning (Ken counted, I tallied). After leaving our last point count, Ken asked to stop near a blueberry field – we found no Vesper Sparrows (though me playing the tape behind his back without him knowing created a really cool reaction from Ken!). After that bit of excitement, Ken walked further along the row of small trees and shrubs, and called out, “RANDY!” Ken had found a singing INDIGLO BUNTING, which I subsequently saw and heard. Now that was unexpected! (Yes Bruce, I’ll take you there…) We canoed two marshy areas and got bitterns, Soras and a Virginia Rail. We found a Hairy Woodpecker nest and saw courting Caracaras. We spent a few minutes checking up on a Saw-whet nest…still on five eggs. Just kidding about the Caracaras! Randy
