Hi All; I enjoyed a lovely walk on the Nichol's Lake Trail this morning. This trail leaves from the Sunrise Park Interfaith Cemetery in Hatchet Lake on the Prospect Road, and runs downhill to Nichol's Lake, at the mouth of the Prospect River. I was too late for the dawn chorus (walked from 0800 to 0930), but there were some nice birds for this atlas square. Broad-winged Hawks were on territory, as were Black-throated Blue Warbler and Canada Warbler -- the Canada was singing on the far side of the Prospect River just shy of where the river flows into Nichol's Lake. But the best sighting was of an adult and a juvenile Black-backed Woodpecker -- always nice to confirm this species. So, despite being Friday the 13th, I was favoured by good luck.
