Hi Everyone
What a lovely day. I was over to my cottage in Freeport today and was
walking up the hill to get to my car when out of the corner of my eye two
birds flew by my head. It was a Ruffed Grouse and its chick and the hen
landed right on the roof of my car and was walking around chirping trying to
draw my attention away from the little one surrying away! As soon as the
coast was clear it hopped down and flew into the tree chirping to its little
on ewho was hiding in the fireweed.
Also sighted an eider duck with 6 ducklings at the brooke.
My husband sighted a pileated woodpecker by our cottage and an immature bald
eagle flying overhead. Also he sighted a canada goose with 5 goslings near
the store last night.
Also Last night many eider ducks and their ducklings was swimming close at
sweet cakes cove (Irishtown across the bridge past the lower wharf in
westport.) Robbie Denton noticed lots of female adults swimming with about
20 ducklings and a gull decided it wanted a snack but the female eiders were
having none of that and got all the ducklings in the crowded in the center
and they were lifting their bodies and flapping their wings at the gull. The
gull gave up after awhile when it seen the eider ducks mean't business!
