Index of Subjects Things are fairly quiet here at our feeders. We are about to take the one in the front yard down for the summer. We did have a treat briefly this afternoon when a male Bobolink landed in the back yard. Years ago, for a couple years, there was a pair with a successful nest down on the edge of the golf course, then the club cleaned up that area and thinned out the trees and undergrowth. Haven't seen a nesting sight for about a dozen years. There are still a few Juncos and chickadees, a couple hairy woodpeckers, male and female and a couple downys, mostly male. They all had a scream fest at the house the other day (all day) when there wasn't any seed cake. What a racket!! ( We ran out after the raccoon took off with it. ) Many grackles, a few starlings, red-winged blackbirds, male and female, a couple crows and a raven, a Sharp shinned hawk, a broad winged hawk. There are three American goldfinch males and two pairs of tree swallows arguing over one of the houses in the yard. A Barn swallow is swooping in and out our barn but seems to be alone. I have one female purple finch. There are several robins, and a couple song sparrows and now we have lost the white throats as well as the white crowns. No warblers stayed and I am not hearing any vireos. Very strange indeed. I hope this isn't the sign of things to come. There are still two male hummingbirds actually feeding from the same feeders at the same time until today when they started with the territory swooping but as far as I can see the female that arrived sometime ago isn't around. I think that is it. Marg Millard, White Point, Queens http://margmillard.ca
