I have had my share of surveys with fewer than 4 owls...I don't think I've ever had zero. It's rare for me to only get one species though (thankfully, the between-stops GHOW was a perk), just because of the diversity of habitats through which my two routes run. I was supposed to do my second route last night, and two students showed up to help. The wind was high though (despite the forecast calling only for 20 kph winds), so we did a local nest box run instead (all empty). It turned out that the wind died down nicely, and I could have done the route. ...sigh I've posted the cruddy picture of the Barred Owl that swooped in on me at: http://people.stfx.ca/rlauff/personel/recent.html Randy On 17/04/2008, Greg Campbell <gcampbell@bsc-eoc.org> wrote: > > Hi Randy, > > > > I hope you aren't complaining about "only" getting 4 Barreds!
