Thanks for the heads up, Sherman, on this egret in Avonport. A very nice
'find' on the part of Mr Haliburton.

Jean Timpa and I saw the Gt Egret at 2.30 p.m. this afternoon feeding along
the same area in this brook, successfully catching and swallowing what
appeared to be small fish (+?) several times. At one point it used its foot
to stir up the brook bed and came up with food. The flow of water in this
brook is quite considerable now since the heavy overnight rain, as one can
observe from Sherman's photos, maybe to the advantage of the egret.
Bill and Brenda Thexton arrived on the scene shortly after we arived and
were able to observe this beautiful egret also.

On our return to Wolfville, Jean and I observed an adult Bald Eagle flying
from the south-east heading for the Bald Eagle's nest at Eye Rd, east of
Wolfville, land on the nest rim and proceed to offer food to the female
sitting in the nest. Following several minutes of attention to her, he flew
down to sit on one of the fence posts to the west of the nesting tree, while
she sank back down into the nest and almost completely disappeared from
view.

Cheers,
Judy Tufts

I was just in touch with Richard Stern and he also suggests that it looks
like a Great Egret.

Again, the location: Bluff Road, Avonport (exit 9 off 101, around "the
round-about) take exit past school, Bluff Rd swing abruptly right at
church), Haliburton farm 2nd place on right, about 0.5 km or less, continue
eastward to bottom of hill, a dark road repair patch IDs the culvert for the
brook flowing north under the road (there is also a green sewer pumping
station structure on the left). The egret was located on the south side,
strolling casually along the brook, occasionally pausing, leaning down and
darting its long bill into the water ( any success at food ???).

About 2 hours ago (now 10:39 ADT) it was reported to me by Richard ("Dick")
Haliburton that he spotted an egret by the brook below his farm in Avonport.
I checked it out and got this photo (see link). Off the top I would say
Egret but what kind: I lean to Great Egret??, The legs are greenish
(greenish-grey) not black. Neck seems too long (and bird too tall) for
Cattle Egret.

Help on confirmation would be appreciated.
