Hi All,

I guess I will have to weigh in on this topic as I use magnifiers all the time with my moss field work. Eric is right, there is a nice selection of them at For The Birds and I have a Hastings triplet x10 magnifier from them, but also I have recently ordered a x14 Hasting triplet from a Canadian source 1-800-561-3600 BAP Equipment Ltd. These Hastings magnifiers are a little more expensive than the ones at For the Birds but seem to focus more easily on one's subject. This may have someting to do with the small diameter of the lens.

As well I have one from Lee Valley that is also 10x and has a little LED light in it for looking at things in dark areas in the woods. You have to hold it in your hand as there's no way to hang it 'round the neck.. I like that one too.

The other one I use ALL the time is a little jeweller's loop (notice the spelling) as Heather mentioned, that is available at Princess Auto in Burnside.

Cheers, Anne

Can the geologists, plant, and lichen lovers among you tell me where to find a high quality loup (or is it loupe?)?
Is there a local source? Thanks.
