I took my weekly walk to Wagner's Beach and, post Hurricane Noel, I was impressed by the reworking of the rocky "high energy" beach. High energy, indeed. The waves flattened and stretched the rocky beach, obliterating much of the adjacent hiking trail, and infilling half the barachois pond, now more a barachois puddle. Huge rocks and massive logs and beams were tossed about, and there is a disturbing amount of human jetsam. Those who know the site will have seen the "Flotsam and Jetsam" tree; though it sat well above the high tide mark, it was destroyed by the waves. All in all, a most impressive display of the power of the sea. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blake Maybank maybank@ns.sympatico.ca Editor, "Nova Scotia Birds" author, "Birding Sites of Nova Scotia" http://maybank.tripod.com/BSNS.htm 144 Bayview Drive White's Lake, Nova Scotia, B3T 1Z1, Canada (902) 852-2077 -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
