Index of Subjects Recently I collected some froghoppers/spittlebugs from a 10-foot high little tree or bush an abandoned garden near York Redoubt, Halifax, and would like to know what it is. (Actually I fell into it ignominiously and a small branch broke off, so I took it home). Couldn't find anything convincing in my tree book, so could anyone who knows about tree-ID please take a look at the last two photos uploaded to www.flickr.com/photos/Steve_1968 where the two pics are called 2007Sept23_shrub-1 and -4, and at least a few of the leaves are in focus. As this was a former garden, it is not necessarily a N. American native, cold be an imported ornamental. Thanks, Steve (Halifax) P.S. to Dave Webster: the Liancalus flies (Dolichopodidae) were still flitting around on the Halls Harbour cliffs a week ago, along with a few bristletails sitting on the rocks, but the latter are about to disappear into the rock crevices for their long winter hibernation, or whatever they do in there.
