Nature Canada 2007 post conference tour nature note - Joan Czapalay


Wednesday- 8th August:

Shelburne County *Am Oystercatchers* ( 2 adults, two young) still feeding at 
the Hawk, CSI. Too foggy to see many shorebirds, but good numbers reported.

Unable to locate the Harlequins at Baccarro. Several groups of Common Eider 
were off the rocks.


Friday-10th August : Eastern Shore.


McCormack's Beach- We observed Common Terns feeding young. One *Arctic Tern* 
also

present.


At Hartlan Point just off the beach road there were a *pair of Horned 
Grebe*- nice colours.


Conrad's Beach- a single *Black headed Gull* was present. [there are usually 
5-10 black headed gulls there..


Three Fathom Harbour- Unable to locate the Ruff or the Stilt Sandpiper, but 
there was a *Solitary Sandpiper* at the end of the road at Fishermen's 
Reserve about 4pm.


There were good numbers of shore birds at the back cove pond also: 
100+-Semi- palmated Plovers, 3 Killdeer, 40+-Semi-palmated Sandpipers, one 
Least Sandpiper, four Greater Yellowlegs, two Lesser Yellowlegs.
